Route description
Sa Calobra – 26 Hairpins to the Tie Knot
Sa Calobra is perhaps the most legendary climb on Mallorca – and the queen route for anyone wanting to measure themselves against the Serra de Tramuntana. The narrow road up to the Coll dels Reis twists through 26 famous hairpin bends carved into the jagged rock, crowned by its unmistakable landmark, the “tie knot” (Nus de sa Corbata): a bend that loops a full 270 degrees back under itself.
At 72 km and 876 m of climbing, this ride is reserved for pros. First comes a spectacular gorge descent down to the bay, then the brutal return climb awaits – kilometre after kilometre, hairpin after hairpin. Start early and you’ll ride the switchbacks in peace, ahead of the tour buses.
Route character: Demanding mountain route: long gorge descent, gruelling return climb over 26 hairpins
Best season: February to May, October to November
Starting point: Can Picafort (north-east Mallorca)
